Clean-steam traps: BT6-B, BTM7 and sanitary requirements

How to make clean-steam valve and trap specifications precise enough for purchasing and engineering review.

Define what clean means for the process

Clean steam requirements come from the process and its governing specification. A stainless-steel component alone does not establish the quality of the steam system. State the application, process-contact requirements and required documentation when enquiring. Product selection should consider generation, distribution, drainage and the interfaces with the equipment using the steam.

Identify the exact trap configuration

BT6-B, BTM7 and BTS7.1 are different product references. Confirm the exact model, connection, material and operating envelope in the applicable technical sheet. For a replacement, send the nameplate and connection dimensions rather than relying on a photograph of the exterior. Specify any required options using the manufacturer terminology so the quotation is unambiguous.

Treat finish and connections as specifications

Sanitary connections, surface finish and the way the system drains can matter to hygienic design. State the required standard, dimensions and finish rather than requesting a general sanitary version. The manufacturer’s available configuration and the project specification must be reconciled before order placement. Requirements for welding or site installation belong in the approved engineering and quality procedures.

Agree documentation before ordering

Material certificates, surface-finish documentation and other quality records should be specified as part of the purchase scope. Ask which documents accompany the exact product and which must be ordered separately. Keep the approved data sheet, product identification and agreed documentation together. A generic website claim should not replace the records required for your own quality release.

Coordinate the surrounding components

A clean-steam enquiry may include a trap, separator, filter, pressure regulator and isolation components. List each tag and its specific requirements rather than assuming the same specification applies everywhere. STV can consolidate the component list and document outstanding questions. The final hygienic design and process qualification remain subject to the customer’s engineering and quality approval.

General guidance. Final selection must be checked against manufacturer documentation and the actual operating conditions.
